BAMBOO GRIDSHELL

Architecture and Design Students at Navrachana University, Vadodara
Workshop tutors:
Anand Shah, Sagar Parmar

The bamboo gridshell is designed and constructed by 3rd and 4th year architecture and design students at Navarachna University. The workshop aimed to teach students various hands-on bamboo construction techniques. During the course of workshop, they were able to understand the material buildup of bamboo and how crucial it is to design with the sense of its fiber density and direction. Considering bamboo’s flexible nature, bending active gridshell using splits is designed. The gridshell is formed from a flat diagrid, which after its erection is triangulated to gain rigidity.
